Pittsburgh Moonshot Museum paid a visit to APC’s first graders for a very special presentation about space and space travel. Students learned what it takes to travel into space and got a chance to see some first hand experiments related to space travel.
For the past 6 weeks, APC first graders have been Investigating space and space travel. They have explored the sun, moon, planets, constellations, and travel into space. The Moonshot Museum’s presentation enhanced their learning and understanding of these concepts.
The visit from Moonshot was made possible because of a grant from the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence. This year the AFEE has provided numerous enriching experiences for the students through the continuous support and generous funding of programs.
Thanks to JAM #BeTheKindKid, the AES cafeteria was buzzing with creativity during Entrepreneur Night! Forty-four students from AES and APC showcased and sold handmade products to family, friends, and community members.
More than just a market, this event was a lesson in giving. Each student donated a portion of their proceeds to Emsworth Meals on Wheels, raising an incredible $944 to support local seniors.
Entrepreneur Night was a wonderful display of talent, teamwork, and kindness. We're so proud of our young entrepreneurs for making a difference in our community!

Avonworth Primary Center was thrilled to welcome children's author and illustrator Stephen Shaskan. Best known for his popular Pizza and Taco book series, Mr. Shaskan spent the day inspiring young readers and artists.
The visit was a highlight for students, providing a unique opportunity to engage with a real-life author and learn about the creative process behind their favorite books. Mr. Shaskan captivated the children with engaging presentations tailored to each age group, sharing insights into how he came up with the hilarious stories of Pizza and Taco, reading from some of his books, and singing a few songs.
A particular highlight of the day was when Mr. Shaskan demonstrated his artistic talents, showing the students step-by-step how to draw Pizza and Taco. The children learned simple techniques to bring the iconic duo to their own paper.
Mr. Shaskan's visit provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with the author behind these stories and gain a deeper appreciation for the art of storytelling and illustration.
