We're thrilled to share that Avonworth’s own Hallie Camacho will be making her professional theater debut as “Young Anna” in Disney’s FROZEN, the Broadway Musical!
Hallie will take the stage at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh from July 18–27, performing in all local shows except Friday, July 25. After the Pittsburgh run, the production heads out on tour for the rest of the summer.

"On a wintry evening earlier this year, Avonworth School District, home to approximately 2,000 students in Allegheny County, hosted a graduation party. It included the typical pomp — clusters of balloons in school colors, streamers, graduation caps — but the circumstance was wholly unusual. This party feted the class of 2035, an experimental kick-off to a new strategic planning process that engaged students, staff, educators and community members in an exercise to think creatively about the future of learning in the district."

APC second graders became junior Entomologists through hands-on insect exploration, thanks to Fern Hollow Nature Center and a grant from the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence.

Avonworth School District is proud to host the premiere of Finding Stories of Wonder in the Land of Oz, a student-created film reimagining Dorothy’s journey through innovation, science, and storytelling as part of Remake Learning Days!

Avonworth School District enjoyed two lively taiko drumming performances by Peaceful Forest, featuring three of our own students and their father on a journey to complete 1,000 shows across all 50 states.
Kindergarten students explored the science of weather with a special visit from WPXI Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper, bringing their classroom investigations to life.
Avonworth Primary Center welcomed incoming Kindergarteners and their families for a fun-filled Science Safari night, featuring animal-themed activities, new friendships, and a preview of the school year ahead.
Dr. Miller and Ms. Keane were honored with the Policy Champion Award at the Annual Hi5! Celebration for their leadership in creating a supportive and collaborative kindergarten transition at APC.

The Avonworth community gathered on April 22 to celebrate the completion of the AHS/AMS construction project with an open house showcasing the district’s new, state-of-the-art learning spaces.
Bird A Palooza celebrated APC Kindergarteners' bird studies through art, dance, and science—thanks to Pittsburgh Center for Art and Media, Fern Hollow Nature Center, and the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence.

After 17 years of dedicated service, Corporal Chris Simcoviak received a heartfelt send-off as he retired as Avonworth’s School Resource Officer, while the community warmly welcomes Officer Laura Andreakos as his successor.
Avonworth Schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week (March 3-7) by offering FREE nutritious breakfasts to all students. The week featured new menu items, prizes, and special giveaways, all while promoting the benefits of a healthy breakfast for student success. Thanks to The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for their support!

Second grade students had the opportunity to learn about Native American culture and traditions from Tylar Melfi, a descendant of the Deer Clan and Erie/Seneca/Kiowa tribes, including exploring animal furs and learning a traditional dance.

"Becky Marszalek, a paraprofessional at Avonworth Elementary School in Pittsburgh, is the Pennsylvania State Education Association’s (PSEA) Dolores McCracken Education Support Professional of the Year for the 2024-25 school year.
The announcement came during American Education Week and as schools across the commonwealth prepare to celebrate Education Support Professionals Day on Nov. 20, a day to recognize the hardworking support staff who help meet students’ needs and make our schools run smoothly."
Avonworth High School, in partnership with the North Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and KeyBank, is coordinating a Career Fair/Future Ready Showcase.

Representative Vanket joined us as a guest speaker, expressing gratitude to our veterans before the parade began. Middle School Social Studies teachers recently observed Hispanic Heritage Month in their classrooms. Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual observance intended to celebrate the achievements, histories, traditions, diversity, and vibrant culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

Girl Scout Troop 16842 was invited to a special celebratory lunch in the Primary Center lunch room to use brand new reusable lunch trays. Thanks to the troop, single-use plastic trays have been replaced with these reusables to reduce waste.
Primary students have an exciting and valuable learning opportunity with the implementation of RIASEC, a framework that allows students to identify the best career path.
The Avonworth School District is proud to announce that Mr. Scott Tuffiash, a high school English teacher, won the 2024 Innovative Teacher Award. Mr. Tuffiash, who has been a dedicated educator since 2007, is also the leader of the English department’s curriculum development team.

We're celebrating 10 incredible years since Avonworth Primary School officially opened its doors!
We'd like to share a few important updates from our food service team at Avonworth.
The Avonworth School District aims to provide an education that is customized to meet the needs of each learner. Part of this process includes creating a comprehensive assessment system to determine if we are accomplishing this goal. Most of the assessments occur in grades K-8 in order to ensure students are developing skills at the right pace in order to be ready for high school and life beyond high school.
The Avonworth School District is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment at all our athletic and extracurricular events. As a reminder, the following policies will be enforced to ensure all spectators at high school football games have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Safety will always be a top priority for the Avonworth School District. Each summer, we examine our emergency operations plan for the coming year. The district has trained threat assessment teams and a strong working relationship with Ohio Township police and emergency responders. In addition, we practice and refine emergency procedures throughout the year. We share this message to proactively allow families to discuss school safety before the school year.
We hope you’ve had the chance to log into Alma to update your contact information. Parent/caregiver contact information must be up-to-date in Alma to ensure you receive emergency communications from the school district through our rapid response system, School Messenger. As in the past, the district will send email and phone messages for emergency notifications, including weather-related delays/ cancellations and late bus updates, using School Messenger. We will also be adding the ability to receive an SMS (text) message. More information will be sent once this feature is available.
We are excited to welcome several new administrators to Avonworth School District!

Avonworth students, staff and families celebrated the work they did to create their own Wisdom Corridors throughout the district in June. This special event was held at Heinz History Center. It included activities, food and drinks, and recognition of all the wisdom corridor feature schools, including Avonworth Primary Center, Avonworth Elementary School and Avonworth High School.
Health and free meals are available for children at a site near you. This program is open to all youth ages 18 and under. No cost or sign-up is required.

Avonworth Primary Center celebrated National Food Bank Day by creating birthday cake boxes for the Mt. Nebo Church Food Bank. It's part of the #bethekindkid kindness campaign at school.
Students in classrooms worked together to create the kit which had ingredients to make a birthday cake and party items.
