Second graders got a special preview of elementary school life during a visit from counselor Ms. Minert and fifth grade ambassadors, helping build excitement and confidence for next year’s transition.

Incoming Kindergarten families enjoyed a fun-filled Science Safari adventure at Avonworth Primary Center as part of Remake Learning Days, exploring hands-on STEM activities while meeting future teachers and classmates.

APC families enjoyed an unforgettable evening of creativity and discovery during “A Universe of Imagination,” a schoolwide celebration connecting art, science, music, and student talent.

Students traveled to Heinz Hall to “Meet the Orchestra,” where they learned about the four sections of the orchestra during an interactive program led by conductor Moon Doh.

Second grade students explored engineering and problem-solving during Remake Learning Days by designing, testing, and improving their own Hoop Gliders in a hands-on STEM activity.

Second graders learned about honeybees and the importance of protecting them during a special visit from local Master Beekeeper Dan.

Avonworth School District is proud to congratulate Dr. Bobby Eastwood, Assistant Principal of Avonworth Primary Center and Avonworth Elementary School, on earning his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) from University of Pittsburgh.

Avonworth’s K–5 STEM teacher Jana Stahl presented at Carnegie Mellon University with Nesra Yannier of Norilla, highlighting how Norilla Mixed Reality is bringing hands-on, AI-driven STEM learning to students at APC.

APC first graders brought their space studies to life during a hands-on visit from the Moonshot Museum, made possible by the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence.

APC second graders explored Earth’s surface and wrapped up their unit with a visit from a geologist who connected their learning to real-world experiences and careers.

Avonworth School District is proud to welcome Mr. Nathan Milsom as its new Athletic Director.

Mr. Milsom brings a wealth of experience in athletic leadership, program management, and student-athlete development. He most recently served as Director of Athletics at Carlynton School District, where he oversaw more than 30 varsity and middle school athletic programs. In that role, he managed game operations, transportation, and compliance with WPIAL and PIAA regulations, while also building strong relationships with community organizations and supporting student-athletes both academically and athletically.

The Avonworth School District is proud to announce the 2026 Avonworth Hall of Distinction class! This year’s inductees were selected from a strong group of nominations submitted by community members, each reflecting the remarkable impact and legacy of those honored.

We are excited to share that Avonworth School District will be offering two educational travel experiences in 2027, and all students are invited to learn more.

Families are invited to attend an informational meeting to learn more about each program’s itinerary, cost, and enrollment process:

Annette Whipple, the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association 2025 Outstanding Pennsylvania Author, visited Avonworth Primary Center to share her nonfiction animal books and show students how curiosity and research turn ideas into finished stories.

First grade students learned how to stay safe at home through a hands-on poison prevention lesson with Penn State Extension’s Pesticide Education and Master Gardener programs.

Our 2nd Grade Student Ambassadors presented at the April School Board Meeting, sharing how PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and the APCS help create a positive, respectful school environment.

Now that spring weather is finally here, please note that all school campuses are closed to the public during the school day. While we understand that our facilities are valued by the community, restricting access during school hours is essential to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff.

Families are invited to celebrate APC’s second graders at a Send-Off Celebration on June 3 at 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the gym, featuring songs, a class video, exhibits, and refreshments.

Future Ready Leaders and the Health & Medicine Pathway hosted their first mini career fair on March 25, engaging 75+ students in exploring health careers through an interactive Bingo activity.

frED Camp University at Pitt highlighted the importance of belonging in education—an approach already in practice at Avonworth Primary Center, where Principal Scott Miller and student teacher Angel Munzek are helping bring relationship-centered learning to life.

This is a reminder that Friday, March 27 is a teacher professional development day. There will be no school for students. The following week (Monday, March 30 - Friday, April 3) is spring break. Students will return to school on Monday, April 6.

Our High School Wind Ensemble earned a Superior rating for the seventh consecutive year and our Middle School 7th/8th Grade Concert Band received an Excellent rating at PMEA Adjudication, highlighted by a memorable performance at Heinz Hall.

Students from the Early Childhood Education program at A.W. Beattie Career Center visited the Primary Center to lead a Junior Achievement lesson, using pizza to help second graders learn how businesses work.

The Avonworth School District and AESPA Union were honored with a Toys for Tots Commander’s Award in recognition of the community’s “Trucks for Tots” toy drive held in memory of Avonworth Middle School student Nolan Przybysz.

Four Avonworth teams competed in the Western PA Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament, with two teams advancing to the State Finals.

Second grade and kindergarten students teamed up for a buddy reading of I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll to celebrate Read Across America Week. 

APC students experienced history come to life during a performance of Young Washington, a musical highlighting George Washington’s early leadership and his important ties to the Pittsburgh region.

Since graduating from Avonworth High School, Alex Osborn (ASD Class of 2018) has been chasing a dream that first took flight in elementary school.

Avonworth Primary Center is sharing a preview of upcoming spring events, including Celebration of Arts Night, Field Days, and the Second Grade Sendoff.

Avonworth paraprofessional Becky Marszalek was honored as a recipient of the Pennsylvania Teacher of Excellence Award and recognized at the Teachers of Excellence Awards Gala for her outstanding dedication to students.

A special guest visit introduced Kindergarten students to the stories, customs, and cultural significance of Lunar New Year.

Kindergarten students celebrated the 100th Day of School with hands-on activities — sharing collections of 100 items, creating festive hats, exploring numbers, completing 100 exercises, and celebrating how much they’ve learned and grown.

At APC, the PBIS team helped students surprise teachers and staff with flowers, creating beautiful bouquets and spreading gratitude throughout the school.

Second graders celebrated Valentine’s Day with a hands-on RIASEC party featuring heart-themed challenges that encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and kindness.

APC students recently enjoyed their first visit with Callum and Ann from Animal Friends.

Avonworth Junior High and Senior High band students earned selection to the Allegheny Valley Honors Band Festival through a competitive audition process, performing alongside top regional musicians after working with nationally recognized conductors.

Avonworth was featured on Kidsburgh for its participation in the Parents as Allies initiative, highlighting how family–school collaboration and simple engagement strategies are strengthening connections and supporting student success.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026–2027 school year is now open for children who will be five years old before September 1, 2026, and families are invited to attend Kindergarten Round-Up on Thursday, March 12 from 6:30–8:00 PM.

Avonworth Education Support Professionals honored “Super Nolan” with a Trucks for Tots drive, collecting truck donations from across the community and delivering them to the Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Company to brighten the holiday season for children in need.

Student Ambassadors represented APC with excellence at the PBIS Student Summit, sharing insights about our program and bringing back new ideas to strengthen our school community.

Avonworth Primary Center held a spirited pep rally to cheer on the Lopes football team as they head to the 3A WPIAL Championship.

The Avonworth School District community is invited to take part in Trucks for Tots, a special service project held in loving memory of Nolan Przybysz. Nolan was an Avonworth student known by many for his bright spirit, kind heart, and his absolute love of trucks — a joy he shared with everyone around him.

With Thanksgiving approaching, we enter a time of year when the weather could impact our school schedule. As we prepare for the possibility of weather-related delays and closings, we want to make sure families are as prepared as possible.  

Avonworth Primary Center welcomed more than 50 Veterans for a morning of celebration, including a breakfast, parade, student performances, and the announcement that students met their Stuff the Stage donation goal in support of Veterans in need.

For many reasons, Avonworth families may be in need of support right now and the Avonworth School District wants to help. If you or your family are in need of support, completing the form linked below will help us focus on the needs of our families and plan how we can help.

At every game in November, the Avonworth Hockey Club team will collect canned/dry foods to donate to our local food pantry. 

As you may recall from a communication shared in August, TMX Compliance is going out of business. The district previously used TMX to house volunteer clearances.

We are excited to share that a new volunteer system is now in place for the district - Raptor VolunteerSafe.

Kindergarten students at Avonworth Primary Center explored the world of mammals through a hands-on presentation from Fern Hollow Nature Center, supported by the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence.

Avonworth Primary Center second graders explored ecosystems and insects through hands-on learning, culminating in an engaging entomology presentation from Fern Hollow Nature Center supported by the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence.

Avonworth School District has been recognized by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank as a 2025 Child Hunger Hero for its exceptional efforts to support food security and ensure students have access to nutritious meals.

Avonworth Primary Center students in Grades K–2 learned important fire safety lessons during a Fire Prevention Month visit from local firefighters, EMS personnel, and several proud Avonworth alumni.

Avonworth School District has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association as an Outstanding Visual Arts Community for 2024–25.

The generous support of the Avonworth Fund for Educational Excellence (AFEE) continues to enhance educational opportunities for students and faculty.

The Avonworth Antelopes will face the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars this Friday, September 12th. Kickoff is at 7:05 pm with the pre-game events starting at 6:40 pm. 

Avonworth School District is one of two local districts selected to join the News Literacy Projects District Fellowship Program.

The three-year fellowship provides $30,000 grants and customized support to implement news literacy education districtwide, ensuring all students learn to think critically and engage responsibly with the news and information.

Avonworth Primary Center is proud to launch its new Student Ambassador Team, with one second-grade leader from each homeroom chosen to represent classmates, support PBIS initiatives, and serve as role models for the school.

Josh and Gab kicked off the school year at Avonworth Primary Center with an engaging program to launch PBIS through music, laughter, and positive messages.

Avonworth School Board President John Brandt was honored by PSBA for 10 years of service and Board Member Pat Stewart for 20 years, recognizing their dedication to students, schools, and the community.

Congratulations to Becky Marszalek on being selected as Pennsylvania’s 2026 recipient of the Travelers Insurance Award for Teaching Excellence from the NEA Foundation, honoring her exceptional leadership, teaching excellence, and positive impact on the community.

If you would like to keep copies of your clearances for your records, please log in to your TMX Compliance account and download them prior to this date.

We're thrilled to share that Avonworth’s own Hallie Camacho will be making her professional theater debut as “Young Anna” in Disney’s FROZEN, the Broadway Musical!

Hallie will take the stage at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh from July 18–27, performing in all local shows except Friday, July 25. After the Pittsburgh run, the production heads out on tour for the rest of the summer.

"On a wintry evening earlier this year, Avonworth School District, home to approximately 2,000 students in Allegheny County, hosted a graduation party. It included the typical pomp — clusters of balloons in school colors, streamers, graduation caps — but the circumstance was wholly unusual. This party feted the class of 2035, an experimental kick-off to a new strategic planning process that engaged students, staff, educators and community members in an exercise to think creatively about the future of learning in the district."
